'Since its establishment, the CCCB has been anxious to pursue new paths to culture and knowledge', explained Josep Ramoneda, the CCCB's director. This accounts for the creation of the CCCB_LAB, a new department dedicated to researching and disseminating cultural innovation.
The new department, which will be working in conjunction with other centres such as the Paris Institut de Recherche et Innovation, Citilab and the UPF, is preparing a project on the history of the Internet.
'It won't be the classic history, rather it will explain the Internet through its milestones', remarked Juan Insua, the director of this new department and former manager of the centre's activities area.
The project, which will lead to an exhibition and other formats which could include a virtual exhibition, is an open process without any dates planned yet.
Further activities
The CCCB_LAB will take charge of activities already launched by the centre, such as its NOW meetings, the Kosmopolis festival and the Nano family activity, but it will also set other ones in motion.
Mention should also be made of MAP, the Project Marathon where groups and collectives can submit cultural proposals, in the hope that CCCB, along with other institutions and bodies, will decide to go ahead with them.
Virtual stages
Another area the CCCB_LAB is working is the world of the Internet. It has therefore planned a virtual cultural portal. This will include the CCCB Channel, a space for publishing and disseminating the centre's audiovisuals.
In addition, there are plans to research a format for virtual exhibitions and metaexhibitions to go beyond some of the first steps, as in the case of 'The Jazz Century' web version.
