Tibidabo will strengthen its rols as a city park with amusements
posted 27/02/2007 at 18:30 h.
Tibidabo starts the 2007 season, on 3 March, with the opening to the peak of Collserola, the part above 500 metres, to the general public.

Until now, this privileged viewpoint of the city could only be reached through the amusement park, so paying, but now access is free.

The viewpoint, with panoramic views of the whole city, will be open, every day, from 11 in the morning, until dusk.

Amusements and rides in this area will also be open every day. These include the Avió, La Talaia, El Carroussel, El Panoràmic, El Museu d'Autòmats and Les Atraccionetes. Opening times for other attractions will depend on the time of year.

The opening of the area above 500 metres to the general public will be in three phrases, according to Councillor Carles Martí.

This starts on 3 March, when all who want to will be able to walk along a half-kilometre path. Another section will be opened to the public in May, the wooded areas, which unite the park with the Hotel Florida.

The final stage will be in July, with the renovation of the romace gardens, with a cupola with the programme "The sky of Tibidabo" and an amphitheatre where there will be children's events.

This is a change in concept for the Tibidabo Parc d'Atraccions, concentrating on its function as a city park. The idea is for the region above 500 metres to be a point where families and schools in particularly can enjoy themselves all year round.

Cinema in four dimensions at Tibidabo

Dididado is a new attraction, a cinema screen in 4 dimensions, offering many different sensations, visual and tactile.

With a seating capacity of 72, this will have a wide range of films for all the family.

The Funicular will run all year round

The most popular means of public transport to go to the top of Tibidabo has been remodelled recently, with new machinery and a new image for the carriages.

The Funicular can offer 8 trips each hour instead of the 4 it could make up to now.

As a result, the capacity for passengers will increase from 720 per hour to 1,440.

Tibidabo will also improve public transport access with an increase in the frequency of the neighbourhood bus 111, which will now run every 10 minutes and link with the Funicular de Vallvidrera.

In summer, a shuttle bus service will run, connecting Avinguda del Tibidabo with the Peu del Funicular at Tibidabo, and which will complement the service offered now by the Tramvia Blau.

New ticket offices and visits to the Torre de Collserola

Tibidabo will use new ticket offices along the 500-metre zone. Both these and the entrance signs to the park are reminiscent of a puzzle.

Different tickets will be continue to be sold, depending on whether you want to visit all the attractions or just the key ones in the park.

The Torre de Collserola can be visited on the full ticket (22 euros), while the ticket for key attractions in the peak area, and the Museu dels Autòmats costs 14 euros.

Balance for 2006

The Councillor for Culture,Carles Martí, stated that the Parc d'Atraccions Tibidabo had made a net profit in 2006, for the first time since 1993.

The number of visitors has also increased, from 542,413 to 608,230 in 2006.

"We believe that the park is now financially viable, and now we can also guarantee quality of service and mobility", said Martí.
