The Municipal Action Plan

It is the tradition and aim of the City Council to take action in order to make education one of the city's strategic elements of progress in this new society of information, knowledge and learning.

The Municipal Action Plan determines the objectives and actions to be undertaken in education on the part of the principal agents of local authority education policy, the Institute of Education and its districts.

Among other actions, the City Council guarantees the acquisition of land for the enlargement and improvement of the public network of education centres in the city, the maintenance and security of the city's education centres at the primary education stage and to promote the participation of the education community and of citizens in the field of education.

The City Council has a widespread and critically acclaimed network of local authority non-university education centres which it runs by promoting an innovative offer of educational activities for its education centres and managing an interesting series of pedagogical resources aimed at the entire educational community.

With a responsibility shared with the education Administration, the City Council participates in planning of the city's school map, the monitoring and dissemination of the pre-enrolment and enrolment process of public centres and those operating under an agreement, the investment in works to extend and improve public primary education centres and the management of the city's pedagogical resources centres.

The recent passing of the statutes of the Education Consortium of Barcelona, a public organisation that shares joint responsibility with Autonomous Government of Catalonia, will enable greater integration in education planning in the city and the joint management of public education centres.
